日前，AviadoBio公司宣布完成8000万美元的A轮融资。融资获得的资金将用于推进治疗额颞叶痴呆（FTD）的先导基因疗法进入临床，并推进其处于临床前阶段的其他产品管线，包括治疗肌萎缩侧索硬化（ALS）的疗法。

额颞叶痴呆是仅次于阿尔茨海默病的第二常见老年痴呆症，目前还没有获批疗法。之前的研究表明，编码颗粒蛋白前体（progranulin）的GRN基因突变是导致该疾病的主要原因之一。颗粒蛋白前体是一种调节大脑免疫活性的蛋白。而AviadoBio公司的药物AVB-PGRN旨在通过AAV9载体，将一个表达颗粒蛋白前体的正常基因拷贝递送至大脑，以恢复颗粒蛋白前体的正常表达。这种疗法设计为在丘脑内给药，并利用大脑的神经网络提高载体的生物分布，实现基因的最大化广泛表达。
